Samsung must be feeling pretty good about themselves after all the legal battles they've been fighting against their business partner Apple. This came just a few days after Millennial Media launched their Q3 2011 findings for Top mobile device manufacturer where we sawe Apple as the leader followed by Samsung. The reprt by Millennial Media however was showing Top manufacturer for 'all devices', including the king of tablet sales, the Apple iPad and iPad 2.

This latest report shows that Samsung has beaten Apple out of the top spot specifically in the smartphone category, not including tablets or other devices. After an earnings call for Q3 last Friday Oct. 28th 2011, Samsung reported with a total Q3 2011 shipment of 27.9 million smartphones, where Apple shipped 17.1 million iPhones.

Samsung reported an operating profit of 4.25 trillion for the same time frame. WOW! What I could do with that kind of cash! Also, yes I understand Samsung has many many different types of smartphones battling against Apple's iPhone line. It still shows however that other business models with Android can work and be successful against the power of Apple products and marketing.
