Rumor: iPad Mini Coming 2012
With or without the passing of Apple founder Steve Jobs, almost every technology hungry person in the world is eager to clamber for every Apple gadget in the orchard. But alas, Apple has found the one demographic they haven’t spoken to: the cheapsters. Rumor has it (and not the Adele kind) that Apple will be releasing an iPad mini some time in 2012. The device will be made to sell in the $200 range.
It is thought that the new iPad mini will reach the demographic of technology users that really cannot afford the bells and the whistles. The rumors are still unclear about what features the iPad mini would have but one would suspect that it would rival some of its other tablets on the market in the same price range.
India made headlines by releasing the first $35 tablet, named Sky, earlier this month; making technology available in one of the largest populated countries with the lowest socio-economic status. With great acclaim is it thought the new inexpensive tablet could be in the hands of 10 million technology deprived Indians. It is also worth the mention that the Sky runs on Google Android technology. Guess Apple felt the bite of big daddy Google.
But my question is, why not just get an iPod touch? It is basically a mini iPad…or is the iPad a mega iTouch? Either way you see it, the iTouch does most of the function that an iPad can do just with a smaller screen and it’s in the $200 price range. In my opinion, the iPad mini would just be another disappointment to add to the bushel along with iPhone 4S.
