One Billion Downloads for Google Earth
Google Earth has hit a milestone. It has been downloaded one billion times.
According to Google Earth Product Manager, “Google Earth is probably one of the most downloaded applications of all time in terms of raw numbers,”.
To celebrate this achievement, Google Earth launched OneWorldManyStories.com which showcases 40 real-world tales of how people around the globe have used Google Earth. Visitors can also upload their own stories.
Google Earth allows any user to view a satellite image of any part of the earth. The service features satellite imagery and combines aerial photos of any part of the earth, to show real images and 3D interactive graphics that people can observe starting from space and gradually zoom in for a closer look.
It is not without complaints though. Some users have complained that not all images are updated regularly. Some parts of Google Earth still show images culled from when it started in 2005.
