Image Comics - New Release Reviews For May 2, 2012
It was May Day this week and workers took to the streets in solidarity. Protestors were fighting for better conditions all over the world. Image Comics was working extra hard to bring you the best comic books on the market. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.
Mind the Gap - Issue 1
This was a big, first issue in a new series. Big like forty-eight pages of story big. That, alone, made it a great value. The inside is pretty solid.
The first thing noticed is the excellent artwork. It's very attractive art with expressive characters and fine backgrounds. There is a lot of great family drama intertwined with several mysteries and some mystical aspects.
Score: 7.5 out of 10
Blue Estate - Issue 11
Blue Estate benefited from something most Image Comics are missing which is a recap of prior issues. This recap is inventive in the way it does so which is helpful for new readers.
The style of art is very unique and does an outstanding job of conveying the action. It moves very well. The story looses a lot of steam when the characters start talking as they behave kind of strangely and say stupid stuff. Still, overall it's alright.
Score: 6.5 out of 10
Vescell - Issue 7
This was one of the worst books of the week. The artwork is below average. The dialogue is even worse in that it's trying to be poetic but it comes off as cliche-ridden.
Characters do the most unusual and inconsistent things. The concept is perverse but without any chance for redemption. The art is not so great and there are some very odd choices in background detail.Continued on the next page
