Google: The Newest Player in the Movie Business?
Google's YouTube just announced it is launching a film rental service in the United Kingdom (UK). Users in the UK will now be able to rent a very large collection of films to watch online after Google made a deal with big Hollywood film companies such as Lionsgate, Universal, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures and participating British film studios.
This newest Google business venture will put YouTube into direct competition with other big players in the online movie rental services being offered by Microsoft's XBox, Nintendo's Playstation and Apple's movies.
All rented movies will also be available via Google TV, tablets running the Honeycomb version of Android and most Android handsets.
With this latest offering from Google does it mean it is ready to make a huge impact in the online movie industry? We'll just have to wait and see.
